How to Make Stretch Fabric Headbands

Stretch fabric headbands are the perfect accessory for a variety of activities. They are made from high quality spandex and come in a wide range of colours and designs. These headbands are great for sports like basketball and baseball, as well as for working out. This is also an excellent choice for girls who want to keep their hair off of their face.

If you're going to be making stretch fabric headbands, it's a good idea to prewash your fabric. Knit fabrics usually shrink after washing, so make sure that you wash them before you begin sewing. The best thread for sewing with knits is all-purpose polyester thread. Also, it's important that you have a sewing machine with a bobbin thread that matches the colour of the fabric you're sewing with.

First, choose a fabric that is about two inches wide at the top and five inches wide at the bottom. You'll need to cut it in two strips. Make the first strip long enough to be about two and a half inches by 19 inches. For the second strip, you'll need to cut it long enough to be about four and a half inches by 19 inches.

Next, you'll need to choose a type of elastic to use. Smaller elastic tends to twist, while larger ones have less stretch. Use a 1" wide elastic for a small headband, and a 3" wide elastic for a larger one.

When you're finished cutting out the pieces, you'll need to sew them together. The front and back pieces should be cut the same way. Each of these pieces should have a seam allowance of about a quarter of an inch. Once you've finished sewing the headband pieces, you can choose to either fold the ends of the elastic piece over to create a knot or straighten the edges.

Sewing knits is a very easy process. If you have a sewing machine, it's a good idea to use a stretch needle. A regular needle is fine, but a stretch needle will give you a better finished product. Depending on the type of knit fabric, you might want to add a basting stitch to attach the elastic to the headband. However, if you prefer, you can simply hand sew the elastic to the headband.

To close the knot, you'll need to insert shank buttons. If you're using fabric that isn't elastic, you can attach it to the seam with a simple zigzag stitch. You can use a rotary cutter to help with this step.

It's a good idea to make sure that your headband is comfortable to wear. Some people get headaches when their headbands are too tight. That's why it's a good idea to pick a smaller size than you think you'll need.

If you're unsure about how the headband fits, you can take a flexible tape measure around your head and round up to the nearest inch. After you've finished sizing up, you can then use the measurement to determine the width and length of your headband.
